Background
After 20 years of working in the Health Service I wanted to use my skills and experience do something different, but still related to health. I’ve always worked full time and juggled family life, so I understand how hard it is to find the time to take care of your own health and fitness. Choosing to become a personal trainer in order to help bring health and fitness closer to peoples lives, is the perfect job for me and a very exciting one!
I started training as a Nurse in 1987, and spent 10 years working on surgical wards in Leeds and York. I then decided to move into training and development, and enjoyed helping other nurses and doctors develop their skills and expertise. In my latter 5 years my work focused on redesigning services for the benefit of better patient care. I worked with all types of staff groups, clinical and managerial, in a role which required delicate influencing, negotiating and motivating skills. I kept up my nursing registration and this is still currently valid.
Shift work however, meant that I always struggled to manage my own weight, and to fit in exercise, but I knew how important it was to me. I’ve managed to stay motivated, and keep control of my health and fitness though, even through some difficult times. I always tell myself, that even a little bit goes a long way! I understand how tough it can be.
Fitness Training
Following a troublesome back, I was introduced to Pilates 8 years ago. It helped me so much I went on to train as a Pilates Instructor. I absolutely believe core stability and good posture are the basic building blocks for good health & fitness.
I hold a Neuro-Lingusitic Programming (NLP) Diploma. NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. By utilising my NLP skills and experience I can help you identify and understand your goals, and set out on a path to achieve them.
My Premier Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Massage Therapy means I am a competent gym instructor, personal trainer, nutritional advisor and can manage soft tissue injury caused by sporting activities or postural imbalances.
Working With You
My approach to working with you is holistic & personalised. I am particularly interested in working with:
- People who have done little exercise before,
- Those who want to make improvements to their diet or lose weight
- Older clients who want to maintain health and independence
- New mums who want to ‘get their body back’ after child birth
- Clients with postural or back problems who want to take more control of their health
A little exercise can go a long way. I will help you build exercise and a healthy approach to nutrition into your everyday life. All you need is the will……
A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.
